Safety Town 2017
Safety Town, an award-winning program for young children, is coming back to Montvale. Saftey Town will begin Wednesday, July 5th and will end on Friday, July 14th. All children entering kindergarten in September 2017 are eligible to sign up for this exciting program. For two weeks, students learn about traffic safety, fire safety, water safety, household safety, stranger awareness, school bus safety, and other safety concerns. Children attend one session each morning for nine days (10:30am-12:00pm). Tuition is $80.00 per child for the entire 8-day course.
Safety is taught to the five year olds through presentations, pretend play and videos, and hands on activities. A village is outlined on the school blacktop. Streets and sidewalks are drawn on the macadam; traffic control signs and devices are used to simulate traffic controls as children drive Big Wheels around “town.”
Guest speakers are invited from various community agencies; police, first aid squad, fire department, forest fire warden, railroad and hospital personnel, Otto the Auto, Smokey the Bear, and many more. Many enjoyable activities are provided.
Middle school students are invited to serve as Junior Counselors under adult supervision; flyers seeking student volunteers will be sent home from Fieldstone Middle School in the near future.
