Our school environment is aimed at nurturing children to reach their potential both as students and citizens. The academic program is designed and implemented to allow for individual differences yet challenges all students to be the best that they can be. The Memorial School family consists of Pre-K through Grade 4 classroom teachers, as well as teachers of world languages, music, physical education, basic skills, art, library, resource room, enrichment, and social skills. In addition, our students benefit from the services of a full time school counselor, school nurse, speech language specialists, and a Special Services Department which is available on a daily basis to assist in providing students with all that they require to be successful.
As young citizens, our students are encouraged to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Recent events which reflect this philosophy include coat drives, food drives, toy drives, "Pass Along Pooh" book contributions to area pediatric wards, Jump Rope for Heart, and a Pet Month during which monies will be collected for area animal shelters. Students have also held bake sales and raised a great deal of money to assist those affected by family emergencies or natural disasters.
Mutual respect, honesty, the acceptance of cultural diversity, and problem solving skills are also promoted in our Social Skills program which begins in kindergarten.
The parents of Memorial School are an integral part of what makes our school so successful. The untiring efforts of the PTO in assisting with myriad activities and programs throughout the year allow us to provide many wonderful opportunities for our students. The Montvale Education Foundation also assists with new and innovative programs through their generous grant program for district teachers, as well as their significant contributions to school improvements.
In partnership with town agencies such as the Recreation Department, the Montvale Athletic League, and the Police Department, we are also able to provide students with age related activities both during and after school. Through the generous support and endorsement of the P.B.A., for example, we now host a Safety Town program.
